How to take the CPS test

  1. Choose a time: 5, 10, 30 or 60 seconds.
  2. Start clicking or tapping in the box; the timer starts on your first click.
  3. Keep going until the time runs out.
  4. Read your clicks per second and total, and try to beat your best.

What is a good CPS score?

Most people manage roughly 6 to 8 clicks per second with normal clicking. Gamers using techniques such as jitter clicking or butterfly clicking can go well beyond that. Treat these as rough figures: your result depends on your mouse, your hand, the time limit and how warmed up you are.

Shorter tests give higher scores because you can sprint for 5 seconds but not for a minute. Compare yourself on the same time limit each time. The 60 second test is more about stamina than speed.

Clicking techniques

  • Normal clicking: your index finger on the button, the most comfortable for long sessions
  • Jitter clicking: tensing your arm so your finger vibrates on the button, fast but tiring
  • Butterfly clicking: alternating two fingers on one button, popular with some Minecraft players
  • Space bar: on a computer the space bar also counts, so you can try with a keyboard

Take care with jitter clicking in particular. Tensing your arm for long periods can lead to strain, so take breaks and stop if your wrist or forearm aches. A mouse with a light, crisp button helps more than pressing harder.

Getting consistent results

Run the test a few times and look at your typical score as well as your best. A one-off high is often a lucky burst. On a phone, tapping with two thumbs usually beats one finger. A wireless mouse with a low battery can drop clicks, so try a fresh battery or a wired mouse if your score suddenly falls.

Your best score is saved in this browser on this device, so you can come back and try to beat it. It is not uploaded or shared with anyone.
