How to use the yes or no wheel
- Think of your question, or say it out loud for effect.
- Choose whether to include Maybe on the wheel.
- Press Spin and wait for the answer.
- Check the tally to see how the yeses and noes are stacking up.
When a yes or no wheel helps
Some decisions do not matter enough to agonise over: takeaway or cook, the long walk or the short one, one more episode or bed. Handing them to the wheel saves time and stops the back and forth. It also works well for games, such as a yes or no round at a party or a quick forfeit decider in a WhatsApp video call.
A trick some people use for bigger choices: spin, and notice how you feel when the answer appears. If you are disappointed by "No", you probably wanted to say yes. The wheel cannot make the decision for you, but it can show you which way you were already leaning.
Yes, No and Maybe
With two options, Yes and No each have an even chance. Add Maybe and the wheel splits into three equal slices, so each answer comes up about a third of the time. Maybe is useful when you want a way out, or for games where a "Maybe" means "ask again" or "your turn to decide".
Every spin uses your browser's cryptographic random generator, so the answer is not predictable and earlier results do not affect the next one. A run of four noes in a row is normal over enough spins and does not mean a yes is due.
The tally
The tally counts how many times each answer has come up during this session. It is a bit of fun in a group, where you can play best of five or best of ten instead of trusting a single spin. It is also a nice way to show children that random results even out over many tries, but can be lopsided over a few. The tally resets when you reload the page.
Questions people ask
Is it a fair 50/50?
With Yes and No only, each has an equal chance on every spin. With Maybe added, each of the three has an equal chance.
Should I make real decisions with it?
Use it for light choices or to break a tie. For anything important, use it to check your gut reaction, not as the final word.
Does the tally save?
No, it covers this session only and starts again when you reload the page.
Can I spin from the keyboard?
Yes, press the space bar on a computer, or tap the wheel on a phone.
